Located in Pittsboro, Entry #10 on the High Performance Home Tour highlights the growing demand for homes that combine modern architecture, energy efficiency, and advanced building materials. Currently under construction at 263 Paces Mill Trail, this 3,825-square-foot residence by Newphire Building Corp.
showcases how high-performance fenestration systems can elevate both the design and functionality of a home.
Designed by Ellen Cassilly, the home features expansive glazing and contemporary European-inspired architectural details supplied by Eurostar Windows & Doors. The project centers around creating bright, open living spaces while maintaining strong thermal performance and long-term energy efficiency.
A major architectural feature of the home is its use of oversized aluminum window and door systems from the Decalu 88 series. These systems were selected for their clean modern aesthetics, structural durability, and thermal efficiency. The project includes multiple 10-foot-tall by 5-foot-wide windows, dramatic triple-pane corner glass assemblies, and large folding door systems that help blur the line between indoor and outdoor living.
The oversized glazing allows natural daylight to penetrate deep into the interior spaces, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day while creating a stronger connection to the surrounding landscape. In modern high-performance homes, daylighting is an important design strategy that contributes not only to visual comfort, but also to overall energy-conscious living.
One of the most notable elements of the project is the use of triple-pane corner glass windows. Triple-pane insulated glass provides enhanced thermal performance by reducing heat transfer and improving interior temperature stability throughout the year. These systems also help reduce exterior noise infiltration while supporting a more comfortable indoor environment.
Large expanses of glass are often associated with energy loss, but advanced thermally broken aluminum framing systems make it possible to achieve contemporary glass-heavy architecture without sacrificing efficiency. By combining high-performance glazing with precision-engineered framing systems, the design team was able to create expansive views and open spaces while still supporting the home's performance goals.
The residence also incorporates 10-foot folding door systems that create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. When opened, the doors allow the living areas to expand outward, increasing natural ventilation and reinforcing the home’s connection to nature. When closed, the systems maintain strong thermal and weather performance while preserving the minimalist aesthetic of the architecture.
Additional design features include glass balustrade “French balcony” elements and premium European hardware details, including Manital pipe systems, which further enhance the home’s clean contemporary appearance.
As high-performance construction continues to grow across North Carolina and in throughout the USA in general, projects like Entry #10 demonstrate the important role that advanced fenestration systems play in modern residential design.
